How to check when a member joined your Discord server
You do not need to write a bot command to check when someone joined a Discord server. Build Discord Bots includes the Free Tools & Utilities module, whose userinfo command returns a member card with Joined Server as well as account-created time, display name, ID, bot status, roles, and available profile details. This walkthrough creates or updates a no-code bot, then uses !userinfo or /userinfo in the server.

Before you start
- Have access to the Discord application for your Build Discord Bots bot and a server where you can add it. You need no programming tools for this walkthrough.
- Know the bot’s command prefix if you will use the prefix form. The usual example below is !userinfo, while the slash form is /userinfo.
Select Tools & Utilities in the builder
Create a bot from the Build Discord Bots dashboard, or open an existing bot and select its Modules tab. Make sure Tools & Utilities is selected. It is a Free module, so it is available on the Free plan; the module provides its built-in commands when the generated bot starts.
If you added the module to an existing bot, follow the dashboard’s normal regenerate and start workflow. The platform generates and hosts the bot for you, so this does not require a code editor or a command-hosting service of your own.
Invite and start the bot
Use the dashboard’s invite flow to add the bot to the server you manage, then start it from the bot page. Wait until its status is online before testing. The command needs a server context because Joined Server is a member property for that specific server.
If a command does not respond, first confirm the bot is online and can view and send messages in the test channel. Prefix commands also depend on the generated bot receiving message content, while slash commands are registered by the generated bot.
Run userinfo for yourself or a member
In a server channel the bot can access, run !userinfo for your own information, or run !userinfo @member after mentioning the person whose membership you want to inspect. The module also exposes /userinfo with an optional user picker; leaving it empty checks the invoking member.
Use this as a lookup, not as evidence that someone has been continuously active. The command reads the current Discord member object and reports when that member joined this server. It does not calculate message activity, a prior membership history, or a join date for a different server.
Read the Joined Server field
The userinfo response is an embed. Find the field labelled Joined Server. It displays Discord’s full timestamp and a relative time, so you can see both the calendar moment and how long ago the member joined. Account Created is a separate field and describes the Discord account, not when the person entered this server.
The same card can show display name, ID, whether the target is a bot, selected profile badges, an acknowledgement where available, and up to 15 roles. Those fields are supplementary; for this task, rely on Joined Server rather than confusing it with account-created time or a role-assignment date.
Use a repeatable moderator check
For a routine check, run the command in a staff channel that the bot can access, mention the member, and record only what your community policy permits. The command itself is read-only: it displays information and does not change a role, nickname, membership, or server setting.
If the bot cannot resolve the member or cannot send the response, check its access to that channel and test with the invoking member first. Do not treat a failed lookup as a statement about a member’s account; it is a bot or Discord access issue to investigate in the server.
Frequently asked questions
What command shows when a Discord member joined the server?
With Tools & Utilities enabled, use !userinfo @member or the /userinfo command’s optional user picker. The embed includes a Joined Server field.
Is Joined Server the same as a Discord account creation date?
No. The userinfo embed shows Account Created and Joined Server as separate fields. Joined Server is the relevant timestamp for this server.
Do I need to code a Discord join-date bot?
No. Select Tools & Utilities in Build Discord Bots, generate and start the bot, then use its existing userinfo command.
