How to make a sticky message in Discord
Sticky Messages keeps one text message or embed at the bottom of each configured Discord text channel. After a member sends a message, the bot removes its previous copy and reposts the sticky after the chosen interval.

Before you start
- Use an online Build Discord Bots bot that is already in the server you want to configure. You need access to that bot’s Modules tab in the dashboard.
- Choose a text channel where the bot has View Channel, Send Messages, Read Message History and Manage Messages. An embed also needs Embed Links. The bot needs these permissions in the selected channel, even when it has a broader server role.
- Plan for one sticky per text channel. Free includes 2 saved sticky channels per bot; Pro allows up to 25 across that bot’s servers.
Enable Sticky Messages for the right server
Open your bot in the dashboard, select Modules, enable Sticky Messages, then choose Configure. In the settings dialog, select the server you want to configure. Settings are saved for that selected server, so repeat this process for another server that uses the same bot.
Keep Enable sticky messages on. If you are editing an existing setup, the list shows each saved channel and whether it is Active, Paused, Paused by plan limit, or suspended because of permissions.
Add the message and choose the interval
Choose Add sticky channel, select a text channel, then choose Text or Embed. Enter the message body. An embed can also have a title, colour and footer. Choose an Interval from 5 to 3600 seconds; a new sticky starts at 15 seconds by default.
Click Save Settings to apply additions, edits, pauses and removals. On an active entry, new messages from members trigger a repost after the interval. The bot ignores messages from itself and other bots, and groups busy-channel activity into one repost instead of posting for every message.
Use the /sticky commands when you have Manage Messages
Members need Manage Messages to use /sticky set, /sticky remove or /sticky list. /sticky set requires text and accepts optional channel, embed, title and seconds options. It uses the current text channel when channel is omitted; embed sends text as the embed body; title is for that embed; and seconds accepts 5 to 3600, defaulting to 15.
/sticky remove has an optional channel and otherwise uses the current text channel. It removes the saved configuration and tries to delete the bot’s previous copy. /sticky list has no options and replies privately with saved channels the moderator can see, including active, paused and suspended states. The selected channel must be a visible text channel where both the bot and the moderator have the required access.
Fix a suspended sticky or a plan-paused entry
If the bot loses View Channel, Send Messages, Read Message History or Manage Messages, it suspends reposts for that channel. When it can still view and send in the channel, it posts one warning; it also records the suspended state. Restore the permissions and the bot can resume the sticky automatically. Embeds additionally need Embed Links.
Free permits 2 saved sticky channels per bot and Pro permits 25. When you move from Pro to Free, saved channels above the Free allocation are paused by the plan limit rather than deleted. They remain saved for later editing, removal or restoration after an upgrade.
Frequently asked questions
How many sticky channels can I use?
A channel can have one saved sticky. Free allows 2 saved sticky channels and Pro allows 25, shared by the bot across its servers.
How often does Discord repost a sticky message?
The default interval is 15 seconds. You can choose 5 to 3600 seconds. Member activity during the interval is grouped into one repost, so a busy channel does not trigger a repost for every message.
Who can use the /sticky commands?
A member needs Manage Messages to use /sticky set, /sticky remove and /sticky list. Those actions also require a visible text channel where the bot and that moderator have the needed access.
What happens if the bot does not have Manage Messages?
The sticky is suspended and does not repost. The bot records the permissions problem and posts one warning in the channel when it can still view and send there. Restoring the required permissions lets it resume automatically.
What happens to sticky channels on Free versus Pro?
Free allows 2 saved sticky channels and Pro allows 25. When you move from Pro to Free, entries above the Free allocation stay saved and are paused by the plan limit rather than deleted.
