Auto-close and tag Discord forum posts

Updated · 4 min read

Forum Automation can mark a configured Discord forum post as resolved with /forum resolve, add its existing Resolved tag, archive it and optionally lock it. The same Pro module can apply existing tags to new post titles or starter messages by keyword and archive inactive posts. It works with one selected forum per server.

Before you start

  1. Enable Forum Automation and select the forum

Open your bot’s Modules tab, enable Forum Automation for the intended server and save. Existing bots need the normal regenerate and start flow before the new module runs. In its settings, select the forum channel and turn on Enable forum automation.

Copy the IDs of existing forum tags with Discord Developer Mode. Set the Resolved tag ID to an existing tag in that selected forum. The command refuses to resolve a post when that tag is missing, or when it would need a sixth tag slot.

  2. Resolve a forum post with /forum resolve

Open a post in the configured forum and run /forum resolve. When author resolution is on, that post’s author may use it. A member with the configured Forum staff role may resolve any selected-forum post; Manage Server by itself is not enough.

On success, the module adds the configured Resolved tag if needed and archives the thread. Lock resolved posts is on by default, which also locks the thread; turn that setting off only when you want resolution to archive without locking. The reply is private to the caller.

  3. Add literal keyword tag rules for new posts

In Keyword tag rules, enter one line per existing tag: TAG_ID = help | question. Rules match literal, case-insensitive substrings in a new post’s title or starter message; they are not regular expressions. They run in order and preserve tags already present.

Create a fresh test post with help in its title or starter message, then check that the matching existing tag was added. The module does not backfill old posts and ignores later replies for tagging. It stops before adding more than five tags.

  4. Archive inactive posts without resolving them

Set Archive after inactive days to 1 through 365. Leave it at 0 to disable inactivity archiving. The module checks at startup and every 15 minutes, then verifies the latest posted message before archiving an eligible post.

An inactivity archive only archives an unlocked, active post. It does not add the Resolved tag and does not lock the post. The inactivity clock uses the latest posted message, including bot messages, rather than reactions or message edits.

Frequently asked questions

Does /forum resolve close a Discord forum post?

It applies the configured existing Resolved tag, archives the post and, when Lock resolved posts is enabled, locks the thread. It does not delete the post.

Who can use /forum resolve?

The author can use it only when author resolution is enabled. Members with the configured Forum staff role can resolve selected-forum posts. Manage Server alone does not bypass those checks.

Do keyword tags apply to existing forum posts?

No. Rules process new posts only, using their title and starter message. Later replies and existing posts are not retroactively tagged.

Does inactivity mark a post as resolved?

No. Inactivity archiving only archives eligible unlocked posts. It does not add Resolved or lock the post.
