How to set up a counting channel in Discord

Updated · 3 min read

Counting is a Free module that turns one text channel in each server into a shared number game. Members take turns posting exactly the next positive integer; a correct answer gets a ✅, while a mistake returns the next number to 1.

Before you start

  1. Enable Counting and choose the channel

Open your bot in the dashboard, select Modules, enable Counting, choose Configure, then select the server. Choose the Counting channel, keep Enable counting on, and save. Each server has one saved counting channel on every plan; choosing a different channel starts that channel at 1 while keeping the server high score and member totals.

  2. Start the game with clear rules

Post 1 in the configured channel, then have a different member post 2. Every attempt must be only the next positive whole number: no spaces, leading zeroes, expressions or chat text. The same member cannot count twice in a row. A wrong non-empty message or repeat turn gets ❌, posts a short failure line and resets the next number to 1; bots, webhooks and empty-content messages are ignored.

  3. Use the Counting commands

A member with Manage Server can run /counting set channel:#counting to choose and enable the channel, or /counting reset to restart at 1 without clearing the high score or member totals. /counting stats is available to members who can view the saved counting channel and privately shows the current number, next number, high score, status and top 10 member totals.

Frequently asked questions

How many counting channels can a server have?

One saved visible text channel per server on every plan. Changing it starts a new streak at 1 but keeps the server high score and member leaderboard.

What breaks a counting streak?

A non-empty message that is not exactly the next positive integer, or a second successful attempt by the same member, breaks the streak. Bots, webhooks and empty-content messages are ignored.

Who can reset or configure Counting?

The /counting set and /counting reset commands require Manage Server. /counting stats is available to members who can view the saved counting channel.
