Claim tickets and add a member to a Discord ticket
The Free Tickets module gives every open ticket a live card with Claim and Add User controls. The card can assign a ticket to one staff member, and Add User opens a member picker that grants selected people access to the ticket channel. The same actions also have the !claim and !add @member command forms.

Before you start
- Use an online bot with Tickets enabled and a published ticket panel. Run !ticketcheck if the bot cannot create ticket channels or update permissions; the module needs Manage Channels for its ticket workflow.
- Configure a support staff role when you want that role to use the live card controls. Card actions also accept server owners and members with Manage Channels, Manage Server or Administrator.
- Open an active ticket channel. Both prefix and slash forms are registered with Manage Channels, so the member running either form needs that Discord permission.
Open an active ticket from the panel
In your support channel, have a member use the published ticket panel or run /ticket with an optional reason. The module creates a private ticket channel and posts its live ticket card. Claim and Add User are available only while that ticket remains open.
If you have not published a panel yet, configure Tickets for the server and run !ticketpanel in the chosen panel channel. Use !ticketcheck before testing when Discord reports a permission problem.
Claim the ticket from its live card
Inside the active ticket, select Claim on the live ticket card. The configured support role can use the card, as can the server owner or members with Manage Channels, Manage Server or Administrator. The card updates to show the claimant and changes to Unclaim for that same person.
You can also run !claim, or /claim in the ticket. Those command forms require Manage Channels. A ticket already claimed by someone else is not claimable through the command; on the card, only a member with Manage Server or Administrator can take it over.
Add a member through Add User or the command
Select Add User on the live card. Authorized card staff get a private member picker that accepts one to five people. The module grants each selected person View Channel, Send Messages, Read Message History and Attach Files in this ticket channel.
For one person, use !add @Member or /add user:@Member in the ticket. These command forms require Manage Channels. The action only adds access to the current ticket channel; it does not add a server role, make the person staff or change the ticket creator.
Verify access and handle a failure
Ask the added member to open the ticket and send a short test reply. If the permission overwrite succeeds, the module posts an added-member notice in the ticket. The original creator remains protected from the separate remove action.
If adding someone fails, re-run !ticketcheck and check the bot’s Manage Channels permission and the channel or category overrides. Do not assume a support role alone gives the bot permission to edit Discord channel overwrites.
Frequently asked questions
How do staff claim a Discord ticket?
Use Claim on the active ticket’s live card, or use !claim or /claim in that ticket. The command forms require Manage Channels; the card also permits the configured support role and the module’s other staff checks.
Can I add someone to a Discord ticket?
Yes. Use Add User on the live ticket card to pick one to five people, or use !add @Member or /add user:@Member. The module gives them access to that ticket channel.
Who can take over an already claimed ticket?
On the live card, only a member with Manage Server or Administrator can take over another person’s claim. The !claim and /claim command forms instead reject a ticket claimed by someone else.
Does Add User give a member a server role?
No. It changes permission overwrites only for the current ticket channel, granting channel access without assigning a server role or making the person support staff.
